Recycling

From a cyclical perspective, Dacron® is a material with many advantages. It is easy to identify. It is a thermoplastic material that can be melted by heating, since it is used in new products. Because it consists of polyethylene phthalate (same polymer as in PET bottles), there is already an organization for the recovery of the polymer. (KTH Work Report 1995: 8) Dacron® polyester can be burned and energy can be extracted. Depending on the temperature and air access, waste gases contain a varying amount of water, carbon dioxide, and small amounts of organic particles with low molecular weight by combustion. (Safety Data Sheet DuPont 8/1991).

Health aspects

No personal safety equipment is required when handling Dacron®. Dacron® fiber has been used for home furnishing, bedding and many applications in hospitals since the 1960s without any known problems. Dacron® does not create allergies, skin irritations or respiratory irritation. Dacron® is naturally white, odorless, rotten and moldless. Dacron® also causes no emissions.
